Saturn entered Sagittarius in mid-September 2015 and will stay in the sign until the end of 2017. It is the planet of duty and obligations, but also of authority and tradition.
Its influence is not pleasant, but often necessary. It brings order to chaos and discipline to the disorderly. It has the force of the ruler, making no compromises.
So, it has always been regarded as a negative force, but the world would be a mess without it.
Balls and ChainsSaturn does not fit at all in Sagittarius, the sign of freedom, independence and revolt. They are very close to complete opposites.
So, Sagittarius will have a frustrating time while Saturn is within its bounds. Obligations limit freedom and things become much more serious than Sagittarius is comfortable with.
The planet Saturn is in Sagittarius all through 2016, bringing some straining demands.
Saturn returns to the same Zodiac sign every 30 years, approximately. For the individual, the Saturn return signifies the end of one period of life and the start of another. Usually, we only have time for two of those.
But that is the Saturn returning to the position it had in your birth chart, whatever the sign might have been. Here, though, we deal with Saturn influencing directly those with the sun sign Sagittarius.
I doubt that there are many Sagittarians pleased with this influence. Most will see it as a disturbance, as balls and chains limiting their movability. They are right, of course, but the restrictions Saturn introduces have their reasons.
So, you have to learn to live with it – and long for 2018, when it will all be over.
Venus Softens the BlowThere is nothing more important to Sagittarius in 2016 than the Saturn presence and what it leads to. Therefore, it is good to have a look at conjunctions Saturn might make with other planets during the year.
The first one is already on the 9th of January 2016, when Venus meets with Saturn on its much quicker voyage through the Zodiac.
Venus is also present in Sagittarius in the New Year horoscope, which makes the planet particularly important this year – second only to said Saturn.
Venus softens the hardness established by Saturn. While it is in Sagittarius, which is just until the 23rd of January, it creates a good mood and pleasant events. It is also inspiring to creativity.
When it is in conjunction with Saturn, a serious problem the latter has introduced is surprisingly easy to solve, without anyone feeling bad or getting hurt. Venus helps to smoothly solve one significant issue brought on by the stern Saturn.
It is a pity Venus doesn't stay in Sagittarius longer than those two weeks.
Venus Returns in the FallActually, Venus returns to Sagittarius before the year is over, which is not that very common. This, too, points out the importance of Venus to Sagittarius in 2016.
Venus reenters Sagittarius on October 18 and remains in the sign until November 12. That period will have the same sweet ingredients as mentioned above for the first Venus passage of the year. And its blessing is badly needed, this tough year for Sagittarius.
It also means that there is another conjunction between Venus and Saturn. It happens on the last day of October.
This time those born around the 5th of December are affected the most, but just as with the previous conjunction every Sagittarius benefits from it to some extent.
At this late time of 2016, after many Saturn complications, the easy solution caused by this conjunction will really be a blessing. Things don't turn out that bad, after all.
Mars Brings Additional TroubleA more forceful planet than Venus is Mars, which enters Sagittarius on the 6th of March 2016. It would have been more important than Venus had it also been in the sign already at New Year.
But it is still a force to be reckoned with. It has the ability to construct as well as destroy. Its effects are often sudden and very noticeable indeed. It is also a planet more in line with the nature of Saturn than Venus is.
While Mars is in Sagittarius, everyone born in that sign can count on a lot of activity, some of it quite demanding, and several sudden changes. You cause some of them, maybe most of them, but that doesn't mean you always agree with the effects they have.
Mars has a tendency to take its toll, much like Saturn. You can use its power to accomplish things, but not without a price.
Mars has a retrograde movement during the spring, taking it out of Sagittarius on May 25. Then things get calmer and less straining. For a while it can even seem like the changes brought on by Mars will be reversed.
But Mars is back in Sagittarius on the 2nd of August, to remain there until September 27. During this period, the changes that seemed not to happen turn out to do so, and remain that way when Mars leaves the sign.
Two Strong Forces CombinedOn the 24th of August 2016, Mars forms a conjunction with Saturn. It has a particularly strong effect on those Sagittarians born around the 1st of December, but every Sagittarius will be affected to some degree.
Since both Saturn and Mars are difficult forces to deal with, the combination of them in a conjunction must be regarded with great respect. It can cause quite disastrous events.
Something will surely happen on or around that date, and it will be tough to deal with. Even if it is beneficial at length, it is not easy to adapt to. And the moment it happens it is very difficult to be aware of all the consequences.
It can be rather dramatic. So, it is wise to take care of oneself at that time, the more so the closer to the 1st of December one is born.
It is very likely that August 24 and the days surrounding that date is the most dramatic and eventful period of the whole year 2016 for most Sagittarians.
